This is just a recap of the recently finished SEO Tutorial, a simple SEO primer for website builders and those who are more used to designing than worrying about search engines. However, as more websites ask for search engine optimization, the more likely you will have to deal with it. So here were the four parts, all in one posting:

A brief introduction to search engine optimization; how it all works and what you can and can't expect.

Website Building
A guide to the best methods and practices when building your website.

Link Building
The importance of backlinks and link quality, as well as methods on how to create such links.

Tools and More Education
A compilation of great tools for SEO as well as the top websites for further search engine news and education.

i'm curious to know...you used this site as an example through the tutorial...how well is it doing seo-wise?

We really started implementing SEO methods full stride about 2 months ago. Since then, the site has debuted with a Google PageRank of 4 and is currently in the top five on Google for our target phrases "freelance blog" and "freelancer blog." We rank on the first page for a number of other phrases related to our niche, so overall, we're pleased with our SEO results. Moving forward, the focus is on producing excellent content.

You came out nr.7 on the German Google search: "freelance blog". Nr.1 is freelanceswitch.com

Wakeuplater.com did not came bye in the first 6 pages on the Google search: "freelancer blog", nor did freelanceswitch.com. :D

But then again, I didn't look further then page six.

I'm surprised Google even ranks this site that high as German sites should have precedence (hence the proliferation of German sites on the "freelancer" term).

I've always wondered how Google changes it's algorithm for foreign Googlers. I wonder if they measure popularity of a site in a particular country. I do know that Alexa points out that this site is much more visited by folks in the US (while Germany is actually at the bottom of the Alexa list :)

This blog shows up constantly in our searching for various phrases, for both clients and ourselves. there's nothing much wrong with the SEO on here ;)
